Harvest for Teachers

The average teacher spends $910 a year supplying his/her classroom with needed items. Since 2001, Harvest for Teachers, formerly known as ‘Fill The Bus’ has worked hard to combat this problem. We work with local businesses to meet the teachers’ needs in many ways. This year we are off and running to do the same.

If you are a teacher in Guilford County, we need your Wish List soon. Talk to your school’s representative or contact our office for complete details.

SLICC (Service Learning Impacting Citizenship Camp)

August 4, 2008toAugust 8, 2008

If you are a high school student in Guilford County and want to make a difference in your community, listen up!  The Volunteer Center is hosting a week-long summer camp that will build your leadership skills.  You will hear from community leaders, learn about important local issues and how your voice counts, make new friends, and earn community service hours (build up your resume for college applications or meet school requirements).

The camp is limited to only 60 students from Guilford County.  The cost is only $30, but the experience is priceless!  Contact Aaron at aaronhunt@volunteergso.org or your guidance counselor for details.

Human Race 2008

On March 15th, the Volunteer Center hosted the 14th Annual Human Race.  Severe weather threatened to spoil the day, but more than 4,500 people took the chance and came out to raise money for more than 125 local nonprofits.  Their courage was rewarded as not a drop of rain fell from the sky until the event was over.

Money is still trickling in, but so far more than $232,000 was raised!  Even in these tough times, greater Greensboro citizens are extremely generous and do so much to support local nonprofits.  Way to go!!
