Adult Center for Enrichment

Population Served: Provides adult day care and respite care for frail and impaired older adults

Volunteers Needed: Wrap gifts at Friendly Shopping Center through December 24. Wrapping is free, but the public tips benefit services of Adult Center for Enrichment, Weekdays 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. No Saturdays or Sundays.

Animal Rescue & Foster Program

Population Served: Stray cats and dogs |

General: Toilet paper, Lysol spray, laundry detergent, financial contributions for animal medical bills

Arc of Greensboro

Population Served: Individuals of all ages with developmental and other associated disabilities and their families

Donations Requested: Individuals, families, or groups to adopt needy clients in the community and in state hospitals. Each adopted person has a wish list of needs. Through December 20.

Volunteers Needed: Angel Project needs volunteers to sell ceramic angels hand painted by Arc clients as a fundraising project to raise awareness of individuals with disabilities. Angels are sold at various locations throughout Greensboro. Flexible hours.

Minimum age 10 if accompanied by adult

Population Served: Children and adults with developmental disabilities

Volunteers Needed: Shopping buddies for adults in the agency's independent living program who don't have their own transportation. Now through Christmas. Minimum age 18,

Back Together Again

Population Served: Women recently released from prison and their children

Donations Requested: Financial contributions;

Bell House

Population Served: Developmentally disabled adults ranging in age from 21-72 in a group home to pursue independence. Currently 22 adults live at Bell House.

Donations Requested: Electric stove, couch, DVD player, scanner, photocopier, tools, books on tape, craft materials (glue, markers, construction paper, etc), board games, bird seed, baskets, Christmas flowers, Christmas stockings, Christmas candy, Santa hats, bedsheets, dishes, vacuum, wrapping paper, copier paper, printer ink cartridges, water filter, gift certificates to office supply stores, financial contributions for needy clients who otherwise couldn't afford activities

Population Served: Guilford County students at risk of dropping out of school

Donations Requested: Secular books for grades 3-5 and 9-12, school supplies (notebooks, book bags, etc), winter coats, scarves, mittens, and hats for boys and girls, financial contributions

Population Served: Children 4-10 years old; approximately 80% on free or reduced lunch

Donations Requested: Holiday food baskets; toys for boys and girls ages 4-10

Fairview Elementary School

Population Served: Pre-K through 5th grade students

Financial contributions to purchase food, toys, and clothes for needy children and their families

Faith Action International House

Population Served: Immigrant and refugee individuals and families

Donations Requested: Personal hygiene products for men and women including soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo, feminine hygiene. Donations will be given to the Guilford County Department of Social Services and other organizations that provide emergency shelter assistance to refugees and immigrants.

Friends Homes West

Population Served: Continuing care retirement community

Donations Requested: Christmas cards for assisted living and nursing care residents. Cards may be mailed directly to residents or delivered to the Friends Homes West activity department for distribution. Mail to: Friends Homes West, 6100 W. Population Served: Students on free/reduced lunch program and their families

Donations Requested: Gift certificates to grocery and discount stores and restaurants; financial contributions to assist with utility and power bills, clothes, holiday dinners

Gillespie Park Elementary School

Population Served: Students pre-K to 5th grade. Impaired population is approximately 90%.

Goodwill Industries of Central NC

Population Served: Provides job training and employment for individuals with barriers

Donations Requested: Gently used clothing, housewares, furniture, and jewelry; financial contributions to help provide services and training

Volunteers Needed:

Customer service at retail stores and donation sites. Meet and greet the public.

Support volunteers to help in job training classrooms

Office support staff

Spokespeople to educate the public about Goodwill and its programs

Training available for all volunteer work

Greensboro Urban Ministry

Population Served: Provides emergency food and housing assistance for needy individuals and families

Donations Requested:
Gift certificates from grocery stores, food baskets, and gifts for families living at Pathways Family Shelter and Partnership Village

Volunteers Needed:
Provide evening meals or weekend brunches to families at Partnership Village and/or Pathways Family Center.

Provide fellowship and activities for adults and children throughout the holiday season.

Greensboro Youth Council - Santa's Workshop

Population Served: GYC gives high-school students in Guilford County opportunities to plan and implement volunteer projects. A student-run volunteer effort, Santa's Workshop provides toys to needy families during the holidays.

Donations Requested:
New and gently used toys, financial contributions to purchase toys
Volunteers Needed: Volunteers to clean and sort used toys on December 17-19.

Happy Hills Animal Foundation

Population Served: Abused and neglected animals

Donations Requested: Cat litter and food, litter boxes, metal spill-proof dog and cat bowls, cedar shavings, plastic dog houses, wire cages, laundry detergent, bleach, trash bags, storage containers, pooper scoopers, materials for landscaping and building projects, donated clothes to sell and raise funds for the agency

Volunteers Needed:
Walk, feed, groom, and shelter animals

Transport animals to vets, television stations to film adoption profiles, and their new homes

Help with office work, including computer work

Minimum age 10 for all volunteer work

Health Serve Medical Center

Population Served: Primary and preventive health care to uninsured and underinsured low-income adults and families in the greater Greensboro area

Donations Requested: Toys for children under 14; personal hygiene supplies for men and women; adult diapers; presents for adults; financial contributions to help defray prescription or medical costs for patients

Volunteers Needed: December 22-23: Greet patients, distribute snacks and gifts

Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, Kids Path

Population Served: Children and adults with serious or life-threatening condition or illness

Donations Requested:

Financial donation of $10 or more to place a light on the Tree of Remembrance

Financial donations to the Hospice Patient Emergency Fund

Gift certificates for Hospice patients from grocery or discount department stores, fast food restaurants, movie theaters, video rentals, toy and book stores

Johnson Street Global Elementary School

Population Served: Magnet school serving pre-K through 5th grade Guilford County students ages 4-11

Donations Requested:
Christmas dinners for 10 needy families

Financial contributions for school program, which will provide needy families with, discount store coupons for presents for their families

Volunteers Needed:
Tutor individuals and small groups of students throughout the year

Lunch buddies for individual students once a week

Help teachers with classroom activities

KopperTop Life Learning Center

Population Served: Children with disabilities seniors in nursing facilities, clients with HIV/AIDS, school groups, foster children, victims of domestic violence

Donations Requested:
Sponsor an individual rider, class, or a nursing home for animal assisted therapy program

Financial donations to sponsor an animal

Horse feed, cat and dog food and treats, rabbit food, hay, saddles, bridles, ASTM/SEI-approved riding helmets

Help with clerical duties

Feed and care for animals

Take animals to nursing facilities for animal assisted therapy

Population Served: Men struggling with life-controlling problems such as drug addiction

Population Served: Individuals with mental illness and their families

Donations Requested:
Personal hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes

Gift bags for males and females

Financial contributions for holiday gifts

New casual clothing and underwear for males and females, all sizes

Volunteers Needed:
Host or volunteer at holiday parties for patients at the state psychiatric hospital, behavioral health center, and local adult care facilities

Pick up and deliver holiday gifts to individuals and families

Minimum age 16 for all volunteer work

Sort and hang donated coats through the Give a Kid a Coat program

Servant Center

Population Served: Homeless disabled men in the agencys transitional housing program and low income disabled and elderly throughout the community in the agencys emergency food assistance program

Volunteers Needed:
December 24 and 26, January 2 and 31: Drivers to take residents to appointments in Winston-Salem, Durham, Salisbury

Minimum age 18

Win-Win Resolutions

Population Served: Agency teaches youth conflict resolution through interactive drama. Presentations are made through public schools, YMCAs and YWCAs, clubs, and youth centers. Agency also offers evening conflict resolution training workshops to parents and teachers.

Donations Requested:

Provide financial support to sponsor a conflict resolution workshop in a school or youth organization of your choice. May be sponsored in memory or honor of special someone.

YWCA Support Our Students

Population Served: Academic and life-skills program for middle-school students at Allen, Allen Jay, Aycock, Guilford, and Kiser schools

Donations Requested:

Board games for middle-school students

Art supplies including paint, glue, markers, construction paper

Gift certificates to grocery stores, movie rental stores, and others

Paperback books for middle-school students

School supplies including notebooks, paper, pencils, rulers, calculators, folders

Inexpensive prizes to reward students for good behavior. Suggestions include movie tickets, items from dollar stores, candy, school supplies.

Volunteers Needed: Through December 18:
Lead educational and fun programs for middle-school students. Volunteers may choose program theme or agency may help determine topic. Suggestions include cooking, crafts, career information, math, science, geography. Programs must be presented between 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Help students with homework at any of the above-listed schools. Hours 3:45-4:15 p.m.

Minimum age 18 for all volunteer work

YWCA Teen Parenting Program

Population Served: Teen mothers in the community. Program matches young mothers with female mentors and provides education and support to teen families including childbirth classes, literacy, parenting, child development, health and safety.

Adopt a needy family and provide holiday gifts

Volunteers Needed:

December 16 for preparing and serving Christmas meals
